Oak Forest’s Jayson Kent scored 18 points and grabbed nine rebounds and the Bengals topped Oak Lawn 70-54 on Jan. 10 in a key battle between two of the top teams in the South Suburban Conference.
Sami Osmani finished with 25 points and five rebounds for the Spartans. He scored 18 points in the second half.
The victory improved Oak Forest to 15-1, and they lead the South Suburban Blue at 7-0.
Oak Lawn fell to 14-3 and 4-2 in the South Suburban Red. Crosstown rival Richards leads the Red at 6-1.
Oak Forest (15-1) led 31-17 at halftime, and the Bengals outrebounded the Spartans 27-17.
Robbie Avila, a 6-9 sophomore, had 23 points on 7-of-10 from the field to go with five rebounds, five assists and two steals.
The Spartans fell to 14-4 after dropping a 58-56 to Brooks at home on Jan. 11.
Each week the Oak Lawn Community High School Athletic Department selects a Spartan Athlete of the Week. The recipient for the week of December 16 is senior boys basketball player Sami Osmani.
Sami Osmani breaks Spartans all-time scoring mark
With a bucket in a 62-26 win over Bremen on Dec. 10, Osmani became the Spartans’ all-time leading scorer. Osmani broke C.J. Kupec’s 48-year-old career scoring record of 1,377 points.
Kupec presented Osmani with a basketball commemorating the accomplishment last Friday night in a pregame ceremony.
Osmani, a four-year varsity player who has been a regular starter since he was a sophomore, has since moved beyond 1,500 career points .
