OL cops charge four with DUI during campaign

The Oak Lawn Police Department made four DUI arrests and cited 85 people with seat belt violations during the "Drive to Survive" traffic enforcement campaign conducted from Dec. 17 through New Year's Eve.

All of the DUIs and one drug-related arrest were made after midnight during theDrive Sober or Get Pulled Over/Click It or Ticket Holiday Crackdown. Fifty seat belt citations were issued during the nighttime hours, police said. Extra emphasis was given to the hours of 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. when statistics show the highest number of motorists drink and drive and the fewest motorists buckle up, police said.

Chicago Ridge

A 33-year-old man was charged with retail theft after he allegedly took earrings worth $140 from a store at the Chicago Ridge Mall.

Robert Brown, of Hickory Hills, was arrested at 7:07 p.m. Jan. 24.

A 20-year-old woman was charged with retail theft after she allegedly took shirts worth $79 from a store at the Chicago Ridge Mall.

Eva Kowalczyk, of Oak Lawn, was arrested at 7:47 p.m. Jan. 23.

A 22-year-old woman was charged with driving with a suspended license and driving without lights after police stopped the vehicle she was driving at the intersection of Southwest Highway and Ridgeland Avenue.

Cynthia Bainter, of Oak Lawn, was arrested at 9:36 p.m. Jan. 21.

Evergreen Park

Three people were reportedly charged with drug-related offenses after police stopped the vehicle they were riding in at the 95th Street and Utica Avenue.

Natalie C. Faletti, 21, and George E. West, 22, both of Hometown, and Thomas J. Peck, 19, of Oak Lawn, were arrested at 9:19 p.m. Jan. 23.

Faletti was charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. She reportedly possessed 2.7 grams of heroin, 23 syringes, three cooking tins, two ligatures, four plastic bags with residue, a cooking spoon and 12 pieces of foil. The items were found inside Faletti's pants, police said.

Peck was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and improper lane usage. He possessed one black zip bag, a cooking spoon, a syringe, and one straw with residue.

West, the driver, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and improper lane usage, police said. He reportedly possessed nine needles, one lighter, a cooking tin, a plastic bag with residue, a smoking pipe, four pieces of tinfoil, one razor blade and one cut straw.

A 56-year-old man was charged with assault after he allegedly threatened an employee at Carson Pirie Scott, 9500 S. Western Ave.

Andrew Hoffman, of Chicago, was arrested at 1:54 p.m. Jan. 20. Hoffman reportedly knew the employee and was at the store to see him.

A 24-year-old man was charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia after police stopped a vehicle in which he was a passenger at the intersection of 87th Street and Kedzie Avenue.

Christopher W. Mestrovich, of Oak Lawn, was arrested at 12:02 p.m. Jan. 19.

Mestrovich allegedly possessed nine 3.1 grams of heroin, two syringes, three plastic bags with white residue, an aluminum cooker with black residue and a burnt spoon.

A 39-year-old man was reportedly charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and improper lane usage after police stopped the vehicle he was driving at the intersection of 91st Street and Pulaski Road.

Horatio O. Scott, of Dolton, was arrested at 4:42 p.m. Jan. 24. He possessed three acetaminophen hydrocodone bitartrate pills and three smoking pipes, police said. Two pills were reportedly found under the driver's seat, and one was found in Scott's backpack. The three pipes were in the vehicle's center console, police said.

A 25-year-old man was reportedly charged with possession of cannabis, possession of drug paraphernalia and improper lane usage after police stopped the vehicle he was driving at the intersection of 87th Street and Sacramento Avenue.

Daniel R. Zolp-Mikols, of Homer Glen, was arrested at 6:17 p.m. Jan. 22. He possessed 28.5 grams of cannabis, a glass pipe, and four plastic bags, police said.

A 31-year-old man was reportedly charged with possession of drug paraphernalia after police stopped the vehicle he was driving at the intersection of 87th Street and Pulaski Road.

Daniel M. Westforth, of Worth, was arrested at 7:13 p.m. Jan. 17. He reportedly possessed one plastic bag with heroin residue and two syringes. He was also charged with expired registration, driving with a suspended license and no valid insurance.

A 20-year-old woman was charged with retail theft after she allegedly took three pieces of jewelry worth $110 from a department store in the 9700 block of Western Avenue.

Shianne Smith, of Chicago, was arrested at 3:02 p.m. Jan. 20. She was also charged with obstructing identification for allegedly giving police a false name and birth date.

A 47-year-old woman was charged with retail theft after she allegedly took eight pieces of jewelry and a digital bath scale worth $154 from a store in the 9700 block of Western Avenue.

Shirley Craig, of Chicago, was arrested at 2:53 p.m. Jan. 18.

A 44-year-old man was charged with retail theft after he allegedly took a battery charger worth $39 from a store in the 2500 block of 95th Street.

Brock H. Lowery, of Chicago, was arrested at 2:14 p.m. Jan. 24.

A 41-year-old woman was charged with retail theft after she allegedly took a piggy bank worth $9 from a store in the 2500 block of 95th Street.

Demetria M. Ross, of Chicago, was arrested at 3:33 p.m. Jan. 21.

A 23-year-old man was charged with retail theft after he allegedly took a video game controller and a pair of scissors with a total retail value of $18 from a store in the 2500 block of 95th Street.

Jamaal E. Boyd, of Chicago, was arrested at 12:48 p.m. Jan. 21.

A 25-year-old woman was charged with retail theft after she allegedly took $66 worth of pens, paper clips and other office supplies from a store in the 2500 block of 95th Street.

Philicia L. Wheatley, of Chicago, was arrested at 9:10 p.m. Jan. 21.

Oak Lawn

A 22-year-old man was charged with DUI and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident after the vehicle he was driving allegedly rear ended another vehicle, then struck a utility pole in the 5300 block of 95th Street.

Carl Busch IV, of Oak Lawn, was arrested at 1:54 a.m. Jan. 20. Busch was reportedly at George's Lounge, 5407 W. 95th St., earlier that evening, and after leaving struck the vehicle in which a woman he had met at the bar was sitting with two men. Busch reportedly tore in shirt off while in a cell at the police station. He was also charged with driving with no insurance.

Two Chicago men were charged with battery after one allegedly slapped a woman and the other punched a woman in the face after a fight at the Hilton Oak Lawn, 9333 S. Cicero Ave.

Jose A. Quiroz, 19, and Miguel A. Martinez, 23, were arrested at 12:38 a.m. Jan. 20. The men reportedly argued with people while at a party at the hotel. Quiroz slapped a woman, and Martinez punched a woman in the face and jumped on a wooden desk, breaking it, police said. Martinez was also charged with criminal damage to property.

Burglary to a motor vehicle was reported at 4:44 p.m. Jan. 18 in the 8900 block of Cicero Avenue. Jewelry worth $13,150, including a diamond wedding band, two pairs of earrings, several gold rings with diamonds and emeralds, and a gold bracelet were reported taken.

A 51-year-old man was charged with possession of a controlled substance after Advocate Christ Medical Center staff members reportedly found crack and heroin in his bed.

Christopher Carter, of Chicago, was arrested at 12:52 a.m. Jan. 22. He had reportedly been in the bathroom for an hour, and when he returned staff found three plastic pouches containing 2 grams of crack and 1 gram of heroin in the bed sheets.

A 44-year-old man was charged with criminal trespass to property and disorderly conduct after he allegedly tried to remove a window screen and threatened a resident in the 8700 block of 51st Avenue.

John R. Miletich, of Chicago Ridge, was arrested at 4:31 p.m. Jan. 22.

Three Chicago women were charged with retail theft after they allegedly took $2,130 worth of electronics, food, and clothing from a store in the 4100 block of 95th Street.

Crystal D. McCaskill, 19, Azalea M. Conn, 28, and Tammie C. Thomas, 24, were arrested at 11:46 a.m. Jan. 19. The women reportedly filled shopping carts with the items and left without paying.

A 49-year-old man was reportedly charged with DUI and improper lane usage after police stopped the vehicle he was driving at the intersection of 103rd Street and Lacrosse Avenue.

William J. Lang, of Oak Lawn, was arrested at 1:39 a.m. Jan. 13. He was also charged with failure to signal when required.

A 37-year-old man was reportedly charged with DUI and speeding after police stopped the vehicle he was driving in the 9200 block of 54th Avenue.

Jacoby F. Brown, of Evergreen Park, was arrested at 12:58 a.m. Jan. 22. He was also charged with improper lane usage.

A 53-year-old man was charged with DUI and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident after he allegedly rear ended a vehicle at the intersection of 87th Street and Cicero Avenue.

Ramon G. Garcia, of Oak Lawn, was arrested at 7:28 p.m. Jan. 19.

A 27-year-old man was reportedly charged with speeding and DUI after police stopped the vehicle he was driving in the 7100 block of 95th Street.

Sean P. Virgin, of Plainfield, was arrested at 12:42 a.m. Jan. 19. He was also charged with improper lane usage and no valid proof of insurance.

A 22-year-old man was charged with retail theft after he took a set of toy cars worth $10 from a store in the 4100 block of 95th Street.

Christopher L. Buries, of Chicago, was arrested at 9:28 p.m. Jan. 21.

Theft from a motor vehicle and criminal damage to property was reported at 1:06 p.m. Jan. 18 in the 9100 block of Cicero Avenue. A stereo system worth $700 was reportedly taken, and the dashboard was damaged.

A 62-year-old man was charged with retail theft after he allegedly took seven razor blade refills worth $137 from a store in the 4100 block of 95th Street.

Garland Louis Stovall, of Harvey, was arrested at 1:51 p.m. Jan. 23.

Residential burglary was reported at 8:31 p.m. Jan. 23 at a home in the 4200 block of 107th Street. Money was taken from a purse, police said.

Residential burglary was reported at 9:12 a.m. Jan. 21 at a garage in the 10100 block of Komensky Avenue. A snow blower worth $500 was reported taken.

Hickory Hills

A 27-year-old man was charged with trespassing after he allegedly parked in a drive-thru and refused to leave, then parked in a nearby lot and walked back to the restaurant at 7620 W. 95th St.

Richard L. Sadowski, of Burbank, was arrested at 3:53 a.m. Jan. 25.

A 19-year-old man was charged with reckless driving and arrested on an active warrant for speeding after he was allegedly doing donuts in his vehicle in the Saber Room parking lot, 8900 W. 95th St.

Grzegorz A. Smailkowski, of Hickory Hills, was arrested at 9:54 p.m. Jan. 23.

A 35-year-old man was reportedly charged with driving with a revoked license and no rear registration plate light after police stopped the vehicle he was driving in the 8800 block of 87th Street.

Jason J. Gutson, of Oak Lawn, was arrested at 3:57 a.m. Jan. 23.
