Matthew Wydra was already in jail for same charges

A 25-year-old Chicago Ridge man has been charged with possession of child pornography, culminating an investigation that began in Canada nearly one year ago.

Matthew A. Wydra, of the 5800 block of West 107th Street, was arrested Jan. 8 by Orland Park police.

Cook County Circuit Court Judge Peter Felice last Friday set Wydra's bond at $100,000; however, Wydra is in the custody of the Will County Sheriff's Police stemming from criminal charges - including possession of child pornography and unlawful restraint - filed against him last May by the Frankfort Police Department.

The Ontario Provincial Police last February contacted the Illinois State Police and Orland Park police regarding an investigation related to unlawful dissemination of child pornography, according to police. The case was reportedly referred to Orland Park police because the suspected computer involved in the dissemination of child pornography was located in suburban Chicago. One of the IP addresses of a computer was determine to belong to Wydra, who used to live in Orland Park, police said.

Ontario Provincial Police got involved in the case because child pornography files from Wydra's computer were shared with Canadian citizens, according to Orland Park police. People with whom Wydra shared pornography are also being investigated, police said. Police do not believe Wydra produced pornography.

Police have not release the ages or genders of the children in the pornographic material Wydra allegedly possessed.

Wydra was arrested by Frankfort police last May 20 after police reportedly stopped him for speeding in the 9900 block of Route 30, also known as Lincoln Highway. In the front passenger's seat of the car Wydra was driving was an 18-year-old woman who was reportedly screaming hysterically and told police Wydra was holding her against her will. Police also reportedly found in the car several adult sex toys, DVDs and CDs containing child pornography, and a warrant issued by the Orland Park police for a search of Wydra's apartment in Chicago Ridge.

Wydra met the woman in an online chat room, and planned to take her to a cornfield in Manhattan and have sex with her, police said. Police also found an Orland Park police search warrant in Wydra's vehicle for a search of his residence.
