A criminal investigation that began 11 months ago in Canada has resulted in a 25-year-old Chicago Ridge man being charged with aggravated possession of child pornography.
Matthew A. Wydra, of the 5800 block of West 107th Street, was arrested Jan. 8 and charged by the Orland Park Police Department. Cook County Circuit Court Judge Peter Felice has set Wydra’s bond at $100,000; however, Wydra is in the custody of the Will County Sheriff’s Police stemming from charges levied against him in May by the Frankfort Police Department.
The Ontario Provincial Police last February contacted the Illinois State Police and Orland Park police regarding an investigation related to unlawful dissemination of child pornography, according to Orland Park police. The case was referred to Orland Park police because the suspected computer involved in the dissemination of child pornography was located in suburban Chicago, police said.
The Orland Park Police Department’s Internet Crimes Unit and Illinois State Police last April executed a search warrant on Wydra’s apartment at 5800 W. 107th St. Chicago Ridge. Police reportedly recovered “computer-related evidence” that was analyzed by investigators. An arrest warrant for charges of aggravated possession of child pornography was issued in December.
Wydra was at the time of his arrest in the custody of the Will County Sheriff’s Police. He was transported from Will County Jail to the Bridgeview Courthouse for a bond hearing, then taken back to Will County. He is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29 in Room 103of the Bridgeview Courthouse.
