An Oak Lawn man who left home last Saturday for a routine walk in a Cook County Forest Preserve is still missing.

Oak Lawn, Cook County Sheriff’s and Cook County Forest Preserve police officers have searched Country Lane Woods, off 95th Street west of La Grange Road, for Algimantas Bauza, 58, of the 9500 block of Mansfield Avenue. Police continued to search Wednesday using canines and all-terrain vehicles. 95th Street was closed west of La Grange, with a Cook County Sherif’s Police cruiser blocking westbound traffic from accessing 95th Street.

“We are using the canines to locate the missing person but the more people that use the forest preserve the harder it is to track him,” said Oak Lawn police Division Chief Mike Kaufmann. “We are relying heavily on the family to help located the individual.”

At roughly 3 p.m. Saturday, Bauza’s car was reportedly found at the forest preserve by his son. Giedrius Bauza of Willow Springs, who contacted Willow Springs police. Willow Springs police contacted the Cook County Sherriff’s Police, Cook County Forest Preserve police and Oak Lawn police departments.

“At this point there are no new developments,” Kaufmann said on Wednesday. “We will continue to search for the man using the canines and officers on all-terrain vehicles and rely on the family’s report to find him.”

Bauza is described as white, about 6 feet 2 inches tall with gray hair and balding. He was last seen wearing blue sweat pants, gray sneakers and a shirt of an unknown color, according to police.
