Ronald J. Friend

Ronald J. Friend, 62, of Hickory Hills, died Jan. 20. Visitation was held at Panozzo Bros. Funeral Home in Chicago Heights on Jan. 24. A funeral service was held on Jan. 25. Burial was private. Mr. Friend is survived by his daughter, Lori Anderson; his son, Brian Friend, RN; his sisters, Carol Lang, Beverly Friend and Diane Harmater; and three grandchildren.

Mr. Friend was born in Chicago. He was a retired machinist for Formcraft Tool Company. Memorials may be sent to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Expansion at Christ Hospital, c/ o Advocate Charitable Foundation, 205 W. Touhy, Suite 225, Park Ridge, IL 60068.

Edward F. Hoyne

Edward F. Hoyne, 85, of Oak Lawn, died Jan. 8. Visitation was held at Foran Funeral Home in Summit on Jan. 11. A funeral Mass was offered at St. Fabian Church in Bridgeview on Jan. 12. Burial was at Resurrection Cemetery in Justice.

Mr. Hoyne is survived by his wife, Ann; his sons, Raymond and Robert; his sister, Jean Skolba; and four grandchildren.

Mr. Hoyne was a retired food inspector for Jewel Foods. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Christ P. Kastanes

Christ P. Kastanes, 91, of Oak Lawn, died Jan. 4, at home. Visitation was held at Chapel Hill Gardens South Funeral Home in Oak Lawn (Nick Collias, F.D.) on Jan. 8. A funeral service was held at Saints Constantine & Helen Orthodox Church in Palos Hills on Jan. 9. Burial was at Evergreen Cemetery in Evergreen Park.

Mr. Kastanes is survived by his wife, Zoe; his sons, Peter, Bill and John; his brothers, Ted and Harry; his sister, Effie Katelouzos; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mr. Kastanes was born in Greece. He was retired after working for the Hilton Hotel for more than 40 years.

Dorothy Kovar

Dorothy Kovar, 73, of Hickory Hills, died Jan. 8, at Pinnacle Nursing Home. Visitation was held at Lack & Sons Funeral Home in Hickory Hills on Jan. 13 preceding a chapel service at the funeral home. Burial was at Resurrection Cemetery in Justice. Mrs. Kovar is survived by her sons, Ronald and LeRoy; her daughter, Susan Bogda; her sister, Frances Uher; her brother, Edward Dzielinski; and three grandchildren.

Mrs. Kovar was a waitress.

Johanna McDonough

Johanna McDonough (née Ryan), 50, of Evergreen Park, died Jan. 4. Zimmerman & Sandeman Funeral Home in Oak Lawn was in charge of arrangements. A memorial Mass will be held at Most Holy Redeemer Church in Evergreen Park on Feb. 4 at 10:30 a.m. Burial is to be private.

Mrs. McDonough is survived by her husband, Charles; her daughters, Jennifer McDonough and Amanda Flores; and her mother, Dolores Ryan-Creighton. Mrs. McDonough was born in Chicago. She was the manager of legal secretaries at a law firm. John J. Miller Jr.
