Liquor and gambling
The Village Board on Jan. 8 tabled voting on two restaurants' requests for liquor licenses, as well as ordinances that would increase the number of liquor licenses available.
The items were tabled because of trustees' concerns about the reasons behind the license requests. Oak Lawn last year started permitting alcohol-serving establishment to have video gambling machines, the board has seen an increase in the number of liquor license applications by businesses seeking to add gaming machines.
Oak Lawn is conducting background checks on businesses that want to install electronic gaming unit, and officials have deemed the concern of excessive gambling valid. The matter has been set aside for future discussion.
