Picnic Permits

T he Forest Preserve District of Cook County is selling 2013 picnic permits online and in-person. Permits can be purchased between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. at the Forest Preserve District of Cook County general headquarters, 536 N. Harlem Ave. in River Forest, or 24 hours daily at fpdcc.com. The permit office will be open Mondays through Fridays from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. from April through September. A picnic permit must be obtained by groups of 25 people or more. Only two picnic permits per person or organization are allowed per year. Permit prices vary based on the size of the group and the amenities available at the site. Permits for groups larger than 399 people must be purchased in-person at the general headquarters.

Square Dancing

T he Swing'n Sugar Squares Club, which welcomes experienced square and round dancers, will continue to meet from 7 to 9:30 p.m. the second and fourth Thursdays each month at Central Junior High School, 9400 Sawyer Ave. in Evergreen Park. Ron Ashenden will cue the round dances. The Sugar Squares will hold a Snowflake Ball on Thursday, Jan. 10, a country hoedown on Thursday, Jan. 24; a Be My Valentine dance on Thursday, Feb.; and "Favorite Decade in 20th Century" on Thursday, Feb. 28.
