More than 900 Moraine Valley Community College faculty and staff, college and university representatives, legislators, and guests attended the installation of Sylvia M. Jenkins as Moraine Valley Community College’s fifth president on Oct. 16. The outdoor ceremony held on the campus commons included a processional of faculty and staff garbed in their official regalia, student leaders carrying degree and certificate banners, veteran students — dressed in their military uniforms — carrying the flag of their branch of the service, and the South Suburban Chiefs of Police Association Honor Guard posting the colors. President Emeritus Dr. Vernon O. Crawley gave the keynote address reviewing the mission of the community college and the challenges that confront all community colleges.
