Focus on Seniors

Registration is underway for an AARP Driver Safety Program at the Oak Lawn Public Library, 9427 S. Raymond Ave., from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, Nov. 6 and 7. Program is designed to meet the needs of drivers 50 and older. Some insurance companies offer reduced rates to drivers who receive a certificate of completion. Patrons must register in person at the library’s Reception Booth, fee is $12 for AARP members and $14 for non-members. Registrants must present current AARP card at enrollment to receive discount.

The AARP is offering the November series free to all military personnel who serve or have served in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, National Guard/Reserves or Coast Guard. Saint Xavier University will host the second event in its Estate Planning Seminar series, “Protect Your Future: Life Planning for Elder Years,” from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 20 in the Butler Reception Room, in the Warde Academic Center at SXU’s Chicago campus, 3700 W. 103rd St. Event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served. Seminar will cover what seniors can do to prepare for life changes. Presenters include Amy Parisee Delaney, founder of Delaney, Delaney & Voorn and one of nine certified Elder Law Attorneys in Illinois; Robert T. Standring, owner of Standring Financial Insurance Services; and Connie J. Wright, assistant vice president of Trust and Estate Services at Harris Private Bank.

The Evergreen Park Office of Citizens’ Services offers a Meals on Wheels program for village residents 60 years and older who are unable to prepare their own meals. Meals are delivered Monday through Friday. For more information call 422-8776.

Palos Hills residents 55 years and older meet from noon to 2 p.m. the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month at the Palos Hills Community Center, 8455 W. 103rd St. Tickets for events must be purchased one week in advance. Entertainment includes musicians, singers, luncheons, movies, plays and bingo.
