Village trustees voted unanimously Aug. 20 to approve a two-year contract with electricity supplier Verde Energy USA at a rate of 4.62 cents per kilowatt hour.
The Verde rate is almost half of ComEd’s rate of 8.04 cents per kilowatt hour.
All 7,200 residences in Evergreen Park were enrolled in the program, said Evergreen Park village clerk Cathy Aparo. The village officially switched over to Verde as the new provider on Aug. 20, but residents will see bills from Verde until late September or early October, Aparo said. ComEd will still provide service in case of a power outage or repair.
