Job Fair in Hickory
U.S. Rep. Dan Lipinski will hold a Job Fair from 10 a.m. to noon Friday, Aug. 24 at The Sabre Room, 8900 W. 95th St. in Hickory Hills. Job seekers can meet with four dozen area businesses that are hiring and represent a broad array of industries. Attending employers include BNSF Railway, Advocate Christ Medical Center, Standard Bank & Trust, AT&T, Walgreens, Hoist Liftruck, Electro-Motive Diesel, the CTA, Citgo-Lemont Refining and Securitas. The Hickory Hills Park District’s annual Fishing Derby for youths 6 years and older will be from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 25 at Martin Park Pond, 89th Place and 78th Avenue. Awards will be given for the longest fish caught in each age division, and a free raffle will be held for all participants. Must furnish own pole and bait. There is a one-pole limit and children must land their own fish. Children under 12 years must be accompanied by an adult. Participants 17 and older must have a valid fishing license.
Camp at Kasey Meadow
Bring a tent, camper (parking lot only), snacks, food and flashlight for the 2nd annual Campout in Hickory Hills Sept. 8 at Kasey Meadow Park, 8047 W. 91st Place. There will be music, games, face painting and a camp fire. Grilling will not be allowed. Check in is at 3 p.m. and check out is at 10 a.m. Persons under 21 years must be accompanied by an adult. Fee is $13 for Hickory residents, $18 for non-residents.
The second of three free community meals offered in Oak Lawn this summer will be Aug. 26 at 6 p.m. at the Menard Center, 90th Street and Menard Avenue. Up to 100 meals will be served on a first-come, first-served basis to all who could use a free meal or want to share a meal with others in the community. “One Community: One Meal Prepared Together, Shared Together” is a joint venture of several Oak Lawn churches and members of The Mosque Foundation in Bridgeview. An interfaith team of Christians and Muslims will prepare and serve the meal. The third free meal will be on Sept. 23 at 6 p.m. For more information call 598-1233 or visit hhparkdistrict.org.
The Swing’n Sugar Squares will hold free square dance lessons Wednesday, Sept. 5 and Sept. 12 at 7:30 p.m. at Central Junior High School, 95th Street and Spaulding Avenue in Evergreen Park. Come with or without a partner. Light refreshments. Casual dress.
Swing’n Sugar Squares dances for experienced dancers begin on Thursday, Sept. 13. Round dances are cued at 7 p.m. and square dances are called at 7:30 p.m. and will continue on the second and fourth Thursdays. Club dances are held at Central Junior High.
