Chicago Ridge officials on Tuesday announced that its waste hauler has been bought out by a competing garbage collection company.
Waste Management on Aug. 1 consummated the deal to purchase Land and Lakes, which is in the second year of a five-year contract with Chicago Ridge. Land and Lakes had been the village’s waste hauler for the past eight years, and Chicago Ridge will be served by Waste Management for the remaining years of the contract. The waste collection rate, the recycling pick-up schedule and the existing routes trucks take through the village will remain the same.
“I assure you that your service level will stay the same,” Waste Management marketing representative Matt Hernandez told the Chicago Ridge Village Board on Tuesday. “Over time, you will notice some changes.Everything is going smoothly and will continue to go smoothly.”
The color of the residents’ waste containers will eventually be green instead of blue, he added. Residents’ questions can be addressed to Land and Lakes, but ny month’s end Waste Management will be transitioning account information. As soon as that is complete, Waste Management will provide residents with a customer service phone number.
“I would like to thank Land and Lakes,” Chicago Ridge Trustee Jack Lind said. “They did a great job for us here in Chicago Ridge.”
