Mayor still in hospital

The mayor of Evergreen Park was as of Tuesday still hospitalized with what village officials have said is a viral infection.

Mayor James Sexton was absent from the Village Board’s meeting Aug. 7 at which time Evergreen Park village Clerk Cathy Aparo revealed he had been hospitalized. Doctors have ruled out West Nile virus as the possible cause of Sexton’s illness, Aparo said.

Aparo speaks to Sexton or a member of his family daily by phone, and said doctors are still running tests to determine Sexton’s diagnosis. His condition was by all accounts unchanged as of Tuesday.

“He sounds good,” Aparo said. “He was concerned that some people are trying to get connected to the [village’s] new website and are having problems with it.”

The village has not revealed where Sexton is being treated, how long he has been there or when he may return to work.
