Am. Legion Post 854

The American Legion Post 854 Auxiliary will install its new officers during a ceremony scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 4 at the Post, 9701 Kedzie Ave. in Evergreen Park. Officers for the 2012-13 administrative year are Louise Cechowski, president; Dian Kinahan, first vice president; Connie Dixon, second vice president; Nora Cummings, secretary; Diane Reding, treasurer; Bobbi Cirantineo, historian; Signe Morgan, chaplain; and Virginia Staudacher, sergeant-at-arms. Circus for You

The Palos Hills Recreation Department will present the Carson & Barnes Circus at 4:30 and 7:30 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, Aug. 6 and 7 at 108th Street and Sunny Creek Drive. Circus will feature a free petting zoo with a menagerie of animals including pygmy goats, llamas and watch Katy the Pygmy Hippo. There will be elephant and camel rides. Tickets for children 2 to 11 years are $6 when purchased in advance, $8 at the gate. Tickets for persons 12 years and older are $10 if purchased using a $4-off downloadable coupon. Lap children under 2 years are free. Online purchases are charged a $1.50 per ticket convenience fee.

Summer Music and Movies in the Park

Evergreen Park will hold a summer concert featuring Cirrus Falcon at 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 10 at Klein Park, 97th Street and Homan Avenue.

Movies in the Park featuring “Back to the Future” will be at 8:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 17 in Duffy Park. Bring blankets or lawn chairs.

Spyro at Trinity Lutheran

Metropolitan Water Reclamation District Commissioner Mariyana Spyropoulos will speak to the Trinity Lutheran Fellowship Seniors at 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 2 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 9701 S. Brandt Ave. in Oak Lawn. Spyropoulos will discuss the proper disposal of medications and the Deep Tunnel project.

Spyropoulos received her law degree from John Marshall Law School and her master’s in business administration from Loyola University Chicago. She was appointed to the MWRD board of commissioners by Gov. Pat Quinn. She is a member of the Chicago Bar Association, the Illinois Bar Association, the Women’s Bar Association, The Sierra Club, the Illinois League of Conservative Voters and the National Affairs Chair for the Independent Voters of Illinois.

Insurance Man to Talk

Thomas Cusack of Cusack Insurance Agency in Oak Lawn will address retirees from the International Brotherhood of Electrical Worker Local 134 at 1:15 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8 at Local 134 Headquarters, 600 W. Washington Blvd. in Chicago. Cusack will discuss the various types of insurance available and the importance of having the right insurance for middle-aged adults and senior citizens. He will also discuss first time driver’s insurance for parents of teenagers and children’s insurance for grandparents. Cusack has 37 years of experience in the insurance industry.

Neat Repeats Resale is seeking volunteers to work five hours a week at its stores in Worth and Orland Park.
