Most area state officials unchallenged in primary
James Brosnahan not running, four vying for Dem nomination in 36th House

Illinois’ general primary election will be held Feb. 2, when voters will determine which candidates will represent their respective parties on the ballot in the general election to be held next November. The following candidates have filed to run in state representative and senate districts that include area municipalities, according to the Illinois State Board of Elections.
16th Senate District
Democrat incumbent Jacqueline “Jacqui” Collins, of Chicago, is unchallenged. No candidates have filed to run on the Republican ballot.
The 16th District includes parts of Hickory Hills, Oak Lawn and Chicago Ridge.
22nd House District
Democrat incumbent Michael J. Madigan, of Chicago, is unchallenged on the Democrat ballot.
Republican candidate Patrick John Ryan, of Chicago, is unchallenged on the Republican ballot.
The 22nd District includes a portion of Hickory Hills.
31st House District
Democrat incumbent Mary E. Flowers, of Chicago, is unchallenged. No candidates have filed to run on the Republican ballot.
The 31st District includes parts of Oak Lawn and Hickory Hills.
35th House District
Democrat incumbent Kevin Carey Joyce, of Chicago, is unchallenged on the Democrat ballot.
Republican candidate Barbara Ruth Bellar, of Burr Ridge, is unchallenged on the Republican ballot.
The 35th District includes Worth and portions of Oak Lawn, Chicago Ridge and Palos Hills.
36th House District
Incumbent Democrat James D. Brosnahan will not run for re-election.
Michael B. Macellaio, Kelly M. Burke and Angela McMahon, all of Evergreen Park, and Karen Sullivan, of Oak Lawn, have filed to run in the Democratic primary.
Richard L. Grabowski, of Hometown, is unchallenged on the Republican ballot.
The 36th District includes all of Evergreen Park and portions of Oak Lawn, Chicago Ridge, Palos Hills and Hickory Hills.
